The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Virginia Beach offers free Family Fest events every other month themed around current exhibitions for families of all ages. This spring, save the dates for March 6 and April 17 from 2-4pm as MOCA offers a unique opportunity to create, explore, enjoy art and most importantly, have fun together! MOCA is located just a few blocks west of Virginia Beach’s resort beach boardwalk area.

Gosport Arts Festival in Portsmouth’s Historic Olde Towne
May 7 & 8
Portsmouth’s Historic Olde Towne is home to more than 80 juried artists and craftsmen from throughout the U.S. and Canada on May 7 & 8. At the Gosport Arts Festival, enjoy the incredible original works of art, live music, arts demonstrations, food vendors, children’s activities and silent auction. The festival benefits the Edmarc Hospice for Children.

2016 Spring Stockley Gardens Arts Festival
May 21-22, 2016
For more than 30 years, Hope House has been the vision behind this local tradition where art, music and more than 50,000 visitors come together for a celebration of community and creativity. Folks flock to the Stockley Gardens Arts Festival in Norfolk’s historic Ghent neighborhood to browse through jewelry, pottery, paintings, and other works of art by approximately 130 artists. Proceeds support housing, transportation, medical care, and more for people with intellectual disabilities.

Discover Hampton’s arts district starting downtown at the Hampton University Museum, the oldest African American museum in the United States and the oldest museum in Virginia. Then, spend a few hours among the paintings, sculpture and photography on exhibit at the Charles H. Taylor Arts Center. From the end of June through mid-August, the Charles H. Taylor Arts Center will feature The Artist Studio, a unique exhibition coupling artwork inspired by artists’ studios with photographs of their studios.

An “art stroll” through charming Downtown Smithfield to take in the town’s collection of public art is a terrific way to get outside in the gorgeous spring weather. Begin at the Visitor Center to pick up a free brochure/map. You’ll experience Smithfield’s Porcine Parade, a “herd” of life-size statues of market hogs painted by local artists, and Lundeen Bronze Statue Collection, life-size bronze statues by artist George Lundeen, depicting such figures as Benjamin Franklin, Robert Frost and the “Valentine Couple.” All of these treasures are placed within easy walking distance throughout town.
