Rick Springfield and the Return of Sailboat Racing at the 40th Anniversary Harborfest

The largest, longest-running, free maritime festival in the nation is celebrating 40 years with the return of sailboat racing and a performance by Rick Springfield.

Norfolk Harborfest is three explosive days of tall ship visits, national, regional, and local entertainment, electrifying fireworks show and the biggest outdoor dock party in Hampton Roads. The weekend festivities include more than 130 hours of live entertainment on multiple stages, featuring national, regional, and local musical acts, Parade of Sail, tall ship tours, fireworks, tugmuster, a Craft Beer Garden, pirates, mermaids and so much more.

Springfield-600National recording artist Rick Springfield to appear on Saturday, June 11 at Town Point Park (8:00pm – Main Stage). Over the past three decades, Rick Springfield has worn many hats as an entertainer and performer. The creator of some of the finest power-pop of the ’80s, he’s a Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and musician who has sold 25 million albums and scored 17 U.S. Top40 hits, including “Jessie’s Girl,” “Don’t Talk to Strangers,” “An Affair of the Heart,” “I’ve Done Everything for You,” “Love Somebody,” and “Human Touch.”

The 2016 Norfolk Harborfest ® Challenge Regatta is planned for Thursday, June 9, 2016.  This US Sailing Association sanctioned race will be reminiscent of the former Harborfest® sail boat races conducted in the 70s and 80s, an around the buoys day race held in the Hampton Roads starting off Craney Island and finishing off Town Point Park and Waterside in downtown Norfolk. The race is open to sailboats over 20 feet LOA, all PHRF handicap classes, regular spinnaker and non-spinnaker classes as well as cruising classes.
