Across Coastal Virginia, we celebrate music and food and frankly anything we can think of as an excuse to throw a party. Truth be told, you can find great festivals year-round across the region.  But there is something special about how we do things during summers on the coast.

Here is just a small sampling of the fun festive reasons to make plans to be in COVA this summer.

Outdoor Concerts in Newport News
Wednesdays through August 31, 2016
When the weather is warm, our weekend starts early. In Newport News you can find live music at Thursdays by the Lake and Fridays at the Fountain, but it all starts on Wednesday evenings with the Port Warwick Concert Series. Enjoy the summer night air on Styron Square listening to the area’s best music. The concerts are free and all are welcome.  Bring your own lawn chairs or enjoy the music from one of Port Warwick’s restaurant patios. INFO

The Blackbeard Pirate Festival in Hampton
June 3 – 5, 2016
Named one of the Top Five Pirate Festivals in North America by USA Today Travel, the annual Hampton Blackbeard Festival celebrates Hampton’s rich maritime heritage by commemorating the demise of their most infamous visitor, Captain Edward Teach, a.k.a. Blackbeard the Pirate. Weekend amusements include a pirate procession, street entertainers, cannon fire at Battery Point, period weaponry demonstrations, bird shows, vendors, fireworks and more. INFO
Harborfest Celebrates 40 Years on the Norfolk Waterfront
June 9 – 12, 2016
Harborfest is three explosive days of tall ship visits, national, regional, and local entertainment, electrifying fireworks and the biggest outdoor dock party in the region. The largest, longest-running, free maritime festival in the nation is celebrating 40 years with the return of sailboat racing and performances by Rick Springfield, Grace Potter, The Drifters, The Coasters, The Platters and more. Summertime and We’re Feelin’ Fine Art in Virginia Beach
June 16 – 19, 2016
The Boardwalk Art Show and Festival is one of the oldest and best outdoor fine art shows on the Eastern Seaboard. Produced by the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, it is ranked as one of the top 15 fine art shows in the country by Sunshine Artist Magazine. This four-day festival features fine art, great shopping, and live entertainment for the entire family. INFO
Funhouse Fest in Williamsburg
June 24 – 26, 2016
This summer in Williamsburg, Grammy®-winning singer-songwriter Bruce Hornsby gathers musical friends for a three-day jam called Festival Williamsburg Funhouse Fest, presented by Virginia Arts Festival. The festival unites musicians known for genre-bending including 14-time Grammy®-winner Ricky Skaggs, iconic singer-songwriters Shawn Colvin and Steve Earle, blues masters The Taj Mahal Trio, legendary drummer Jack DeJohnette featuring Ravi Coltrane and Matt Garrison, and many more. Genuine Smithfield’s Olden Days Festival
June 24 – 25, 2016
This old-fashioned, family-friendly festival has been a regional favorite for more than 30 years with live music, an antique and hot rods car show, and the highly-contested, “Pagan River Raft Race” at the Smithfield Station.  The Olden Days Festival is as authentically small-town as it gets with a ghost walk, military vehicles, Smithfield’s award-winning farmers market, the Bike and Pet Parade a free Friday night concert and more.
