November Events In COVA Not To Be Missed

The holiday season is swinging into full force and you know what that means…holiday lights, parades, Santa sightings and alpacas? Coastal Virginia has it all with an amazing list of events for you and the family to enjoy each weekend no matter where you are. Here is just a sneak peek with five events you don’t want to miss out on.

Here are five ways to start your holidays off right in COVA:

Virginia Beach
Join us at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront for the season of lights and laughter at the annual McDonald’s Holiday Lights at the Beach (November 18 – January 1). Take the journey through the waterfront winter wonderland, as you drive along the illuminated boardwalk. The three mile holiday spectacle of nautically-themed holiday lights and accompanying music is the perfect way to get in the spirit of the season, beach-style! LEARN MORE


This November, slip into a warm sweater and head to Hampton, for a large helping of holiday cheer. On November 12, join the Peninsula Town Center as they celebrate Christmas in Hampton with the Sixth annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. Bring the family, enjoy free hot chocolate and sing Christmas carols as they light their 50-foot tree. The 18th annual Coliseum Central Holiday Parade returns on November 19 with live entertainment, floats, huge helium balloons, marching bands and Santa. LEARN MORE


Mark your calendar for the 32nd Annual Grand Illumination Parade on November 19 in downtown Norfolk. The parade has a special Winter Wonderland theme this year. Free and open to the public, the parade features spectacular floats, marching bands, dancers and Old Saint Nick himself. November 11 – 23 is when the Norfolk’s Botanical Garden lights up for the Million Bulb Walk. Guests can walk through a spectacular two-mile display of dazzling Christmas lights, kick starting the holiday season. Tickets can be purchased here and cost $12 for garden members and $15 for non-members. Children under two are admitted free. LEARN MORE


Take a step back in time with the Battle of Great Bridge. This annual commemoration of the “Southern Bunker Hill” has interactive and educational activities for all. December 3 – 4, will feature re-enactments of the Battle of Great Bridge, demonstrations of colonial life, encampments, historical exhibits, colonial character portrayals, merchants and children’s activities. A special battle re-enactment will be held at 8AM on Sunday, December 4 to commemorate the 241st anniversary of the Battle. LEARN MORE


Named one of the “Top 101 Farmers Markets in America” by, the Smithfield Farmers Market offers tasty foods, baked goods, lovely gift items, LIVE MUSIC every week and of course, plenty of fresh produce. The market’s regular season ended on October 29, but offers several specialty markets throughout the winter months, beginning with the “Thanksgiving Craft & Food Market” on November 19, their “Small Business Saturday Market” on November 26, and in December the “Christmas Craft & Food Market” on December 3. Specialty markets run from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. And as the grand finale to their 2016 season, the Market offers the popular “Christmas Evening Market” on Saturday, December 10 from 3 – 9 p.m. with more than 130 vendors offering handmade crafts and homemade food, live alpacas to pet, live music at four locations, Christmas lights, hot foods and drinks, tours of the 1750 Courthouse, mulled wine, a visit from Santa and more!
