A Portsmouth tradition since 1884, the annual Memorial Day Parade salutes the service and sacrifices of the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and Portsmouth’s proud military heritage. Enjoy floats, marching bands and lots of excitement. The parade begins at 10:00 a.m. and travels on High Street from Peninsula Avenue (at I.C. Norcom High School) to Crawford Street. LEARN MORE
Prepare for takeoff! The War Birds Over the Beach air-show in Virginia Beach is taking visitors on a trip back in time to the days of the WWII era at the Military Aviation Museum, May 19-21. Look up in the sky to see fighters and bombers of our Armed Forces patrol the countryside in Pungo. Experience all this and more, with hundreds of re-enactors, warplanes and entertainment reminiscent of the 1940s during this annual family-friendly ticketed event. LEARN MORE

Celebrate Memorial Day with Commemorative Programs at York Hall with posting of colors, live music, guest speakers, and the placing of flowers. Colonial National Historic Park in partnership with the Fifes and Drums of Yorktown will be starting up the Corps’ schedule, and will have a Memorial Day performance. Grace Episcopal Church will also have a ceremony followed by the playing of “Taps” and replacement of flags of the 83 known veterans. Busch Gardens will be continuing their Food & Wine Festival for guests who want to explore authentic tastes from around the world!
